The first years in middle school are often among the most challenging for students. Indeed, this transitional period requires new middle school students to develop their independence at school and at home. It is undeniable that this period of adjustment is even more complex for students from the most disadvantaged neighbourhoods attending schools in priority education networks. Families do not always have the capacity to support young people during this transition, access to necessary materials is not always guaranteed, and the environment is not always favourable.
While the early years of middle school lay the foundation, the 6th grade is the year where the largest number of students disengage. It becomes essential, therefore, to support these young people during this pivotal
period. By mobilizing organizations that work on self-confidence, public speaking, emotional management, and empathy, the "Défi Jeunesse" program provides the necessary keys for success.
It is imperative to act collectively to create a successful ecosystem around the youngest.
